Dog servicesin Sachse, TX

Sachse, TX asks more of your dog's rabies shots than state law does. Texas requires the vaccine by four months of age, but Sachse's animal code requires dogs over three months old to be vaccinated every year, with a metal tag showing the year, certificate number and veterinarian attached to a collar or harness worn at all times. Keep the paper certificate too, because Animal Services can ask to see it. New residents have 10 days to comply.

The same code limits a home to five dogs or cats in any combination, not counting puppies and kittens under three months old. More than five takes a permit from Animal Services. Off your property, a dog must be on a leash held by a person, and the city does not run a dog park or off-leash area. On hot days, the code bars leaving a dog in temperatures over 90 degrees for long enough to hurt it, or in a vehicle where heat puts it at risk.

If your dog gets loose, call Sachse Animal Services at 972.675.9662. The shelter at 6424 Sachse Rd. is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and closed Sunday, when emergency calls go to Police Dispatch. The after-hours number is 972.495.2271, option 1.
