About DogServ

DogServ is an online, bilingual resource founded by Cal Hewitt. We help dog owners find practical, sourced answers and free safety tools, and we help dog businesses get found through Web Leveling. If your dog may have eaten something toxic or is ill, call your vet or an animal poison-control service.

Who is behind DogServ

Nucky, Cal Hewitt's dog, a small light-coated dog with big ears, resting on a couch
Nucky, about ten years with Cal

DogServ is Cal Hewitt and the DogServ Team, based in the Houston area and online only. Cal also founded Web Leveling, a web and marketing agency, in 2019.

Nucky was Cal's dog for about ten years, until he passed away in 2021. In Cal's words: "He was the best dog." A lot of what DogServ answers are the questions you ask when a dog like that is part of your life: can he have a bite of this, is that behavior normal, what did he just get into.

Before Web Leveling, Cal spent about two decades analyzing business operations in banking and energy. Since then Cal has built websites and content for dog training businesses and dog service directories, ghost-written for dog service providers, built the Can My Dog Eat app, and written 15 eBooks, 27 white papers and 5 published books.

Where our answers come from

DogServ publishes information and free tools; it does not examine, diagnose or treat animals. Every health, safety and food answer names its sources, such as the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, Pet Poison Helpline, the Merck Veterinary Manual and the AKC, links to them, and shows the date we last reviewed it. No content on DogServ has been reviewed by a veterinarian. If a named vet reviews a page, that page will say so.

We update an answer when the source guidance changes or when someone shows us an error. To report one, write to us through the contact form with the page and what you found. How DogServ is paid, including affiliate links, is set out in our affiliate disclosure.

What you will find here

  • Can my dog eat this? Look up a food and get the answer first: safe, careful, or call your vet. Each entry says what to do if your dog already ate it and lists its sources. Start with the Can My Dog Eat lookup.
  • Training and care guides. Step-by-step help with house training, crate training, a dog who will not listen, and knowing when something is wrong. See the DogServ blog.
  • A directory of dog services in Texas. Trainers, groomers, walkers, boarding, vets and rescues near you, being added now.
  • Help for dog businesses. Websites, local search, reviews and video for trainers, groomers, walkers and daycares, delivered by Web Leveling. See help for dog businesses.

English and Spanish
