Dog servicesin Mesquite, TX

If your dog goes missing in Mesquite, TX, check the city shelter and its lost and found listings right away: a found animal brought in is held for 72 hours so its owner can claim it. Mesquite Animal Services runs the Mesquite Animal Shelter and Adoption Center at 1650 Gross Road, open 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Call 972-216-6283. The shelter also microchips dogs on a walk-in basis for $10, including the first registration.

Pets in Mesquite stay on a leash unless they are inside one of the city's three leash-free zones: Town East Park at 2724 N. Town East Blvd., with shade and misting stations; Alcott Park at 2750 E. Scyene Blvd.; and Copeland Park at 2250 Creek Crossing Road, the largest at about 2.5 acres, with a dog-washing station. Each has a small-dog area for dogs under 30 pounds, and treats and food stay outside the fence.

Leave your dog at home for games: the city's park rules bar dogs from all athletic complexes and from other posted areas, except service dogs. A dog attack, a dog fight or a violent stray is a 911 call.
