Dog servicesin McKinney, TX

In McKinney, TX, your dog's rabies tag doubles as its city registration. Under McKinney's animal code, every dog over four months old needs a current rabies vaccine and a valid tag on its collar. In public, it rides on a hand-held leash no longer than six feet, and the city treats leaving a dog tethered or chained as a violation. A home may keep up to four dogs and four cats over three months old.

For a lost dog, leave a message with McKinney Animal Services at 972-547-3445 and search the Collin County Animal Shelter's stray listings. The office is at 401 E. Virginia St., open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have safely confined a stray, Animal Services can pick it up the next business day. An injured or aggressive animal after hours goes to the police non-emergency line, 972-547-2700, which reaches an on-call officer.

McKinney runs two fenced dog parks. Bonnie Wenk Dog Park, 2996 Virginia Parkway, covers two acres with a splash pad and is open dawn to 11 p.m., except until 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday for maintenance. K-9 Corral, 7450 Van Tuyl Parkway, is open 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. At both, dogs wear rabies tags, owners bring up to three dogs and small-dog areas are for dogs under 25 pounds.
