Dog servicesin Leander, TX

Every dog four months or older in Leander, TX must be microchipped and registered with the city. Leander Animal Services offers two choices: a tag registration for $15 a year, or a no-fee modified registration for a dog that is microchipped and spayed or neutered, with proof of a current rabies vaccine. Register at the Leander Police Department, 705 Leander Drive, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration lasts one year or until the rabies vaccine expires, whichever comes first.

To report a loose dog, call 512-528-2800, extension 1; Animal Services staff are on call 24 hours a day. If you find a dog, use the city's Found a Pet page, which is also in Spanish. A found dog without a microchip goes to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, 1855 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown, open noon to 6 p.m. daily, excluding some holidays.

Off the owner's property, a Leander dog must be on a leash or behind a physical fence; an electronic fence does not count. For off-leash time, the city lists a dog park at Lakewood Park, 2040 Artesian Springs Crossing, open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
