Dog servicesin Granbury, TX

A lost dog in Granbury, TX has a short window. The city's restraint and impoundment page says impounded animals are held for three days, though dogs wearing a rabies tag or ID tag may be held longer while staff look for the owner. Call Granbury Animal Control, part of the police department, at 817-573-2648, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, or dispatch at 817-579-3307 after hours. Impounded dogs go to the Hood County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Facility, 1550 Weatherford Highway.

At home, your dog must be kept in by a fence, leash or tether, and off your property it must be in a vehicle or on a leash you are holding. Texas law requires a rabies vaccine by four months of age, and if you cannot show proof when reclaiming an impounded dog, you pay for the shot before release. In October 2024, the city reported a rabid bat found on East Highway 377 and four positive rabies cases in Hood County that year.

The city's off-leash spot is the Granbury Dog Park at 600 W. Moore Street, open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. It covers 1.5 fenced acres with separate areas for large and small dogs, and every dog must be vaccinated before going in. Pets are not allowed at City Beach Park.
