Dog servicesin Cedar Hill, TX

A stray dog picked up in Cedar Hill, TX is held for 72 hours for its owner to reclaim, so move fast if yours gets out. Strays go to the Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center, the city shelter for Cedar Hill, DeSoto and Duncanville, at 1150 E. Pleasant Run Road. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: 972-293-7387. Report the loss right away, then check the city's Lost or Found Animals page and visit the shelter in person, since the page is not a complete list of the animals there.

All Cedar Hill Animal Services calls go through dispatch at 972-223-6111, and emergencies are handled 24 hours a day. The city's animal code does not allow a dog to be at large, limits a residential lot to four dogs, cats or a mix older than four months unless you get a permit, and treats waste left behind and frequent barking as nuisances. In city parks, a leash longer than six feet counts as no restraint at all.

Cedar Hill does not have an operating city dog park yet. The city broke ground on Legacy Dog Park in May 2026, a four-acre park with separate small-dog and large-dog areas, and expects it to be finished by the end of 2026. In winter, the city says to bring dogs inside at 32 degrees or less unless they have a properly insulated outdoor shelter with wind protection, unfrozen water and warm, dry bedding.
