Blue Ridge, TX has some of the stricter everyday dog rules in the area. Under the city's animal code, you may not tie a dog to a stationary object with a chain, rope, tether, leash or cable, and you may not leave an animal in an unattended motor vehicle. Off your property, a dog must be on a leash or chain no longer than 15 feet; at home, it needs a solid fence that keeps it from getting out.

The same code limits a home on a residential lot of 10,000 square feet or less to four adult domesticated animals, with one more allowed for each extra 5,000 square feet. Owners must pick up after their dogs, and a dog that barks or howls enough to disturb the neighbors is an offense. The city parks list shows no dog park.

Blue Ridge has no shelter of its own. Under an agreement with the city, Collin County Animal Services handles animal control and sheltering at 4750 Community Avenue in McKinney, 972-547-7292. Visiting hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the shelter is closed Monday. For an emergency, dial 911.
