Dog servicesin Denton, TX

Every dog over four months old in Denton, TX must be microchipped, with the chip registered with a national registry. The City of Denton made that rule effective May 21, 2024. City code also asks you to keep your dog's rabies tag on its collar or harness whenever it is outside your home, and Texas law requires the rabies vaccine by four months of age.

If your dog goes missing, call Denton Animal Services at (940) 349-7594. The city shelter, the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center at 3717 N. Elm St., is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and closed Wednesday and Sunday. After hours, a dog bite or an injured or aggressive animal goes to Police Dispatch at (940) 349-8181, option 1.

The city says dogs may be off leash only inside a fenced dog park pen. Wiggly Field Dog Park, at 1760 E. Ryan Road, is the one with the dedicated fenced off-leash area. The city's dog park rules ask for current rabies shots and Animal Services registration, a leash no longer than four feet until your dog is inside the pen, and no puppies under four months or dogs in heat.
