Dog servicesin Tyler, TX

Summer in Tyler, TX is hard on paws. In its July 29, 2026 notice on pet safety during summer heat, the city warned that asphalt, artificial turf and concrete can reach 120°F. Tyler Police and Tyler Animal Services recommend keeping pets indoors during the day, off hot pavement and supplied with fresh water. Never leave a dog in a parked car, since the inside can turn deadly quickly even on a cooler day.

Tyler limits a household to four dogs and cats in any combination, not counting litters up to 12 weeks old, and bars dogs from running loose inside city limits or within 5,000 feet of them. City code requires a rabies vaccine by four months of age and again every three years, and the city says to keep proof of it. Barking complaints go to the police non-emergency line.

Tyler Animal Control picks up strays in city limits and takes lost-dog reports at (903) 535-0045, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. The shelter at 4218 Chandler Highway also microchips dogs for $10, no appointment needed. After hours, an injured animal with no owner in sight or a dog threatening people goes to Tyler Police at (903) 531-1000.
