Dog servicesin Rosharon, TX

Rosharon, TX is a Census-designated place in Brazoria County, not an incorporated city, so there is no city dog ordinance here, and the rules of nearby Alvin, Manvel or Pearland do not reach you. Animal-control matters go to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. The Brazoria County staff directory lists Sheriff's Office Animal Control, but the county publishes two different numbers for it, so the Sheriff's Office general line, 979-849-2441, is a steady place to start.

If your dog goes missing, check with the SPCA of Brazoria County, which runs the Southern Brazoria County Animal Shelter at 141 Canna Lane in Lake Jackson and takes lost-pet reports at 979-285-2340. The SPCA's FAQ says strays are held for reclaim for 72 hours, or five days if the dog wears a current rabies tag, a city license tag or a microchip. A rabies vaccine by four months of age is required under Texas law, and that tag can buy you extra days.

A dog kept outside on a tether falls under Texas's unlawful-restraint law, which applies in unincorporated Brazoria County too. The dog needs shelter, shade, drinking water and a dry area, and the restraint cannot be a chain or shorter than 10 feet or five times the dog's length, whichever is longer. In Brazoria County parks, dogs stay on a leash at all times.
