Dog servicesin Fort Hood, TX

Fort Hood, TX is a U.S. Army installation, not a city, and it sits in Coryell and Bell counties. If you live on post, the Army's rules apply: the Fort Hood Domestic Animal Policy requires pets to be registered and microchipped through the Fort Hood Veterinary Center before they move into housing or barracks. They need current rabies, distemper and parvovirus shots, plus a heartworm test and a fecal test within the past year, and every dog must wear a collar or harness with a current rabies tag.

To register, go to the Fort Hood Veterinary Center in person, then call 254-287-2823 two to three business days later to book an appointment. A loose dog on post is picked up by the Military Police or Fort Hood Stray Animal Control, reached through DPW Work Reception at 254-287-2113. Act fast: an animal not claimed within three working days may be adopted out, sent to a rescue or euthanized.

Off post, Killeen Animal Services at 3118 Commerce Drive takes owner surrenders from Fort Hood residents by intake appointment, at 254-526-4455. Summer heat is serious here: a National Weather Service heat advisory on August 18, 2026, named Fort Hood and warned of heat index values up to 107 degrees. The NWS says animals can die of heatstroke within 15 minutes in a hot vehicle.
